SWEATER
You drape around my shoulders, warm and sure,
A borrowed hush against the brittle air;
In every thread, I feel my heart endure
The ache of wanting more than I can bear.
You hold me when the world is sharp and loud,
Your weight a promise stitched into my skin;
I hide my shaking where I’m not so proud,
Pretend this closeness is not pulling me in.
I crave the way you know me without touch,
The silent care you never have to prove;
I fear I want your comfort far too much,
Mistaking shelter for a deeper love.
If I should lose you, cold would know my name
For warmth like yours is never quite the same.
